Product Description & Reviews
Through New Eyes tells a story of school culture through the experiences of Johnny, a high school freshman who is uninterested in school. It places Johnny in two different schools a non-PLC (professional learning community) school and a PLC school and calls upon viewers to relate to his feelings, assess the practices of the schools, and most importantly, examine the reality of their own school from a critical perspective. Through New Eyes: Examining the Culture of Your School is a four-hour training program for use with elementary, middle, and high school staff. The program helps educators step outside their everyday routines and explore common practices and conventional wisdom with a critical eye. The Facilitator s Guide includes an introduction to the program, step-by-step instructions for leading the workshop, guiding questions, small-group and full-group activities, and 15 pages that can be made into transparencies or duplicated as handouts for use during the workshop. The video consists of three distinct segments: Introduction: Richard DuFour explains the structure and culture of PLCs and how educators can change the cultures of their schools. Part I: Johnny attends a non-PLC school. Part II: Johnny attends a PLC school.
